Annual Client Letter 2024 (Reprint)

We hope your year is off to a great start and that you had a wonderful 2023! As we kick off 2024, we want to take a moment to reflect on last year and talk about some things to look for in the year ahead.

2023 Recap

In looking back at 2023, it was a year of intentional growth for our firm. This growth showed in several ways: growing our team, expanding how we serve our clients, and bringing on new clients to our firm. We will share a bit more on these here.

The most significant thing we did last year was grow our team. At the start of the year, we added Olivia as a client service associate and later in the year, we added Trevor as a paraplanner. Adding these people to our team allows us to do a couple of things. The first is to bring in skill sets that help us improve and expand how we serve our clients. The second is to free up time for Jeff and Dan to focus on the areas where they can be the most impactful. That means spending more time with clients, deepening our expertise, and bringing on new clients who are a strong fit for our firm.

Another area of growth was expanding how we serve our clients. We value our client relationships and want to continue to deliver a great experience year after year. Because of that, we are always looking to improve the way we do things. A couple of ways we did that last year included improving our processes around conducting meetings, reviewing tax returns, and bringing on new clients. We also added tools for estate planning and put more structure around how we walk clients through the estate planning process.

Last year, we also added nine significant new client relationships. Our new clients often come from referrals, and we always appreciate it when our clients share stories about their experience with our firm. As we grow, it is important for us to provide a great experience for new clients while also not compromising the quality of our service to our existing clients. In 2024, we plan to continue to add new clients in a thoughtful way, and our year is already off to a great start!

August 2023 marked the fifth anniversary of SummitView Advisors. It is hard to believe how quickly this time has passed, and how much we have grown over a tumultuous five-year period. We appreciate your trust in our guidance. As we have said before, we feel fortunate to be able to do what we do and work with clients we enjoy!

2024 Updates

Going into 2024, we look forward to building upon the momentum from last year. Our focus on building relationships and delivering a great client experience remains the same. With our expanded team in place, we hope to accelerate our progress building out our services and improving how we do things.

Similar to last year, we plan to have most of our regular meetings with clients in the winter/spring and fall seasons. This allows us to focus on other areas during the summer, including growing our expertise, updating our processes, and working on bigger projects, along with taking time to step back and seeing where we want to focus in the years ahead.

Personal Updates

Outside of work, we have been spending a lot of time with our families. Jeff’s sons are 13 and 16 and are getting more independent. His time has been freed up somewhat now that he has another driver in the house!

Dan’s daughters are 4 and 7 years old. They have been enjoying dance classes and basketball lately. Dan became the president of the board of Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes at the end of 2023. He also joined the board of Alongside, Inc., a leading counseling center for pastors, missionaries, and leaders, located here in Michigan.

Again, we hope that you have a great start to 2024 and look forward to working with you in the year ahead!
